RV Showering & Fresh Water Issue

When we returned back from our recent campsite trip, we noticed that the fresh water had stopped flowing from the sink taps and from the shower head, despite the fresh water pump operating, but making a bit of a strange noise.

My first thoughts were that the fresh water pump might have finally given up, with the water pump being the original water pump that came with the RV when we bought her.

I also thought the fresh water pump could have been quieter when we were away, so I asked Rob The Builder to take a look and see what he could do with it.

Rob’s first question was, is there any water in the fresh water tank? I reassured him that we had almost filled the tank before we left the campsite, which means the tank had up to 110 litres of water in it.

We pulled off the feed pipe into the pump and no fresh water came out of it. Rob was insistent that the tank didn’t have enough water, and so I poured in 4 or 5 watering cans of house kitchen tap water into the tank – the water immediately began to be drawn from the tank and the RV taps all started working!

It was at this point I realised that the RV water tank had been empty, and we had used all of the water before we left the campsite – In all, that is about 110 litres of fresh water.

The bigger problem with that is, Samantha and I had taken a shower each and washed up some dirty dishes on the morning of leaving. That means with those 3 things, and a couple of very light Thetford toilet flushes, we had used all 110 litres of water!

I will admit, I do take a LOT longer in a shower than Samantha, and I now know that must change or we will never have any water when we are out on our travels.

Rob tried to reduce the water pump noise, by adding a wooden covering box and insulation around the pump, which made ‘some’ difference, but nothing that was really that noticeable. Our friends Helen and Karl of Youtube’s – Roaming In Raymond https://www.youtube.com/c/RoaminginRaymondMotorhomeAdventures/videos have advised that these fresh pumps are quite noisy in motorhomes, and so we will just need to live with that, which is fine.
