Middlehills Farm Matlock Derbyshire Peak District National Park

In August 2022, we spent a weekend at the mellow, peaceful and very friendly Middlehills Farm campsite. The site is set in 40 acres of countryside in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire.

On the date we went, the area we in heavy sunshine, with most people looking for any bit of shade they could find.

In our case, we found a little bit of shade under the cover of a tree, which for a good part of the day shaded the part part of the motorhome. However, most of the site is without tree cover, and so most people didn’t have the benefit of shade.

The site is generally split into three areas. The first part as you drive in, which has room for a dozen or so pitches. The next is a sloped pitch, and where a lot of people will go if they have children, as this is the closest point to the children’s play area. We chose to pitch on the sloped upper pitch, which generally seemed a bit quieter, but all areas were busy due to this being peak season.

We would recommend that you take some wheel ramps / chocks with you, as the site isn’t level, unless you are pitched on the first area when you come along the main driveway.

If you have a dog, the grassed areas each side of the main driveway in is a great place to walk your dogs.

The showers were 20p each to use, but be warned the 20p only lasts a minute or so, and to top up with a further coin, you need to leave the shower cubicle. There are plenty of showers to go around, we didn’t struggle at all to have a shower, even with how busy the site was.

Directions: From Junction 28 of the M1, take the A38, heading for Ripley, then turn onto the A610 heading to Ambergate (you can follow the signs to Gullivers Kingdom). Turn right onto the A6 to Cromford, turn left into Cromford, then right onto the A5012 for approximately 4 miles. You will arrive at a T-junction with the Hollybush pub on your right. Keep straight on for 400 yards and you will see a sign on your left for Middlehills Farm. Turn left over the cattle grid and up the drive.
