How old are the tyres on your motorhome or caravan?
Do you know how to identify how old the tyres are?
Look along the tyre side wall,. a four-digit date of manufacture is usually located on the tyre sidewall (see the example photograph below).

The first two digits of the code represent the week of production during the year, in this example that is week 29. The second two digits represent the year of manufacture, and so in this case that is 2021.
Tyre Deterioration
Tyres will always deteriorate with age, which increases the risk of tyre failure. If in doubt about the condition of your tyres, always get your tyres checked by a trained professional.

Tyres & Summer Sunshine
UV rays from the sun causes the rubber compound in your tyres to ‘dry out’. They become hardened and brittle, forming cracks in the sidewalls and between the tread blocks. Once cracks reach the inner cords, your tyres are at risk of a blowout.
Using tyre covers can shield your tyres from the harsh rays of the summer sunshine and consequently may lengthen the lifespan of your tyres. Tyres covers will also protect your tyres and wheels from snow and rain, and they prevent corrosion forming on the wheels.
Contrary to myths seen on social media, the aging process of which tyres are exposed is much slower for tyres that are not in use than for tyres that are in use.
Also, a tyre used for just one week, but under inflated by 35%, ages as much as a tyre after 1 year of storage.
