Preparing To Travel Soon

This morning I thought I would have a quick check over of the old Ford Econoline E350 RV, as we plan to travel to mid Wales after Christmas.

First thing, was to get a bucket of hot soapy water on the go, and using our old caravan body washing broom, tackled some of the heavy staining left behind by the rain running off the roof. Most of the marks came off. A bit of elbow grease was needed on the front wheels to get rid of the brake dust, unsurprising as the brakes were fitted as new all round before we began our travels. No muck on the rear wheels though, as they are a twin wheel set up, with brake drums fitted to the rear.

It’s been pretty cold lately, and the RV has not been started for several weeks, so did the main battery retain its charge? It certainly did! A turn of the ignition key and a few turns of the engine later, and the old beast fired into action! The 5.7L V8 petrol engine in this old vehicle is serving us very well that is for sure.

The engine was left on fast tick over for about 10 or so minutes, and the coolant came up to temperature nicely, no problems at all.

A job I do need to carry out is to tighten the alternator belt a little, it’s settled in and I do feel it needs a little more tension, so I will do that before we travel. Today was not the day for it, as it is drizzling with rain and I didn’t want to lie on the wet grass to do the job.

We will update you further soon.
